Comments:

I graduated from ECU with a BM in Church Music in '74, from Pfeiffer University/Charlotte with a Master's in Christian Education in 2000, and from Hood Theological Seminary with a Master's in Theological Studies in 2003. I taught piano for 27 years, until I figured I had paid my dues! I also worked at several Kinston-area churches as organist/choir director. In 1976 I married Carlton Lucas (GHS class of '66), and in 1980 when he took a job with the Boy Scouts of America, we began moving every 5 years or so with his work. We've lived in Roanoke Rapids, NC, Rock Hill and Lancaster, SC, back to Kinston in the early 90s to run an art supply/custom frame shop (anybody remember Artmusphere?), back to Scouting and back to moving-- Oakboro, NC until 2000. Carlton became a local pastor with the United Methodist Church then, and we lived in Gold Hill, NC for 5 years, then in Randolph County for 2 years, and finally to Salisbury, NC. I'm staying here until I rot!!
We both earned Master's degrees from Hood Seminary, and I currently serve as Director of Music at Hood. I also teach the first year of New Testament Greek -- nobody, including me, saw that one coming! I also intend to work at Hood until I rot or they wheel me out on a stretcher!
I've had plans and rough drafts of a novel going for quite a few years. Maybe one day I'll get published. We'll see.
I will soon begin my second year as organist at Grace Lutheran Church (ELCA). There are 3 youth choirs, 3 handbell choirs, and an adult choir, but they are all directed by other people, thank the Lord! I'm enjoying being responsible only for my own performance and mistakes.
Carlton and I have had a succession of wonderful and eccentric dogs during the past 32 years. Currently we have a sweet but cowardly basset-beagle named Rufus, a black-and-white rat terrier named Rascal, and a brown-and-white rat terrier named Daisy. She is the loudest one of the bunch, and when she barks, her "brothers" pay attention.
Daddy passed away in 1987 after a massive heart attack. Many of you remember him from driving the bus and running the clocks for sporting events.
Mama is still going fairly strong at age 81. Many of you took piano lessons from her. She still lives in Kinston and retired last year after 63 years as church musician for her church. Wow! She surely set the bar high for me.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, doing counted cross-stitch, and finding the weight that other people have lost. At the reunion, I'll be happy to give yours back to you if you can identify it :)

School Story:

anything to do with Oran Perry (rest his soul)
Kathy Withers' dog's acting debut in the Ki-Hi skit our senior year (there's a photo in the yearbook --she probably picked splinters out of his butt for a week!)
the time Jean Whitmore and I got the Parkview branch of the post office to hold their truck until we could get there with the final edition of the Ki-Hi -- they were 3 minutes late, but that issue of the Ki-Hi came out on time
